How Much Paint do I Need for my Project?
So you want to paint the living room? Great. You grab 3 gallons of paint thinking surely that’ll be plenty! Imagine how you’ll feel when you use the last of your 3 gallons at 11:30pm and you’re only halfway done with the room. Doh! Now you’re exhausted, it’s late, you’re not done and Home Depot’s closed.
Well, how much more paint do you need? Painters say one gallon of paint will cover just about 400sq ft. Which is pretty much one coat to a room the size of a two-car garage. The problem is most projects require more than one coat, especially if you’re going from light to dark or vice versa.
If you are painting an average living room, you will need two gallons of paint – this allows for two coats of paint to an 800 sq ft room. The key takeaway when buying paint: always round up. Some walls soak up more paint than expected while some might take less paint. Also, it never hurts to have extra for touch-ups.
So if you’re going to DIY it, do the math first, then add an extra gallon just to be safe. Or if you get yourself into a jam or just don’t want to tackle the project yourself, Slipstream is never more than a phone call away!
