How to decide between Gloss, Flat or Satin Paint for Your Next Project.
As a general rule of thumb Satin, Eggshell, or Flat are best for interior walls. For trim and woodwork, it is best to use a Semi-Gloss or Gloss paint.
GLOSS
– This will give you the most shine out of any other options.
– Gloss is easy to apply, and the more gloss in the paint the more durable it is.
– This paint is durable but also shows the most imperfections.
FLAT
– Flat is the least durable paint choice.
– Hides imperfections the best.
– Easy to clean up with soap and water.
SEMI-GLOSS
– Used on most trim and woodwork.
– Distinguishes shine that sets it apart from the wall.
– Cleans easily with soap and water.
SATIN
– Durable and is cleaned easily with soap and water.
– Glossiness will highlight imperfections like cracks and patched drywall.
– Great for kitchens and bathrooms.
EGGSHELL
– Shinier than flat but not as glossy as satin.
– Easy to clean with water and soap.
– Great for bedrooms, hallways, and living rooms.
